Lovely Walk

Me and TJ had our first meeting with the builder and his wife (who also happens to be the listing agent :) ) this morning to walk the property.  This is something that not many builders do in this area, they expect you to like what they do and live with it, so this was very nice. 

We were supposed to have this meeting yesterday, but the weather was horrible.  And by horrible I mean tornado warnings, torrential down pour, and road closings.  Exactly what I like on a Saturday (ummm sarcasm??) So we rescheduled for this morning.  The weather was wonderful and we also got to see if there were any trouble spots on the land. 

We have a nice little plot, the middle of 3.  Ours is 2.033 acres (I'm proud of that extra .033 acres) on the left is a 28 acre plot that can only ever have one home on it and on the left there is a nice home on 2 acres (they don't have the special .033 :) )

He showed us where the drain field will be and the house will sit, we won't have a large back yard but a nice front yard and a huge side yard.  We are hoping to start construction in no more than 6 weeks depending on how long it takes to get a building permit.

Appraisal is starting in the next few days.  Even though the contract isn't contingent on an appraisal it is something I would like to have in my pocket.

Today's question: I have the option of an L shaped kitchen with an island or a U shaped kitchen with a bar and no island.  Opinions on the two set ups? The picture below is a picture from the builder of the house with an island, if we went with the bar option the counter would continue from the right to about where the island is in the picture.  It would also have an overhang for stools.
